Joe Jonas Blindsided: Was Singer Made To Think Spider-Man Role Was His?

Joe Jonas was ecstatic to play Peter Parker in the 2012 movie “The Amazing Spider-Man,” but Andrew Garfield ultimately won the part.

The 33-year-old member of the Jonas Brothers made the revelation on this week’s episode of the “Just for Variety” podcast. He said he remembers years ago that he was up for Spider-Man, and he was so, so happy…but it was the year Andrew Garfield got it.

The musician conceded that Garfield was clearly the perfect choice for the coveted role.

The fact that the movie’s director, Marc Webb, “used to produce music videos,” according to Grammy nominee Jonas, gave him the impression that he had “an in.”

There are no bad feelings now though. He could only look back at those times fondly. He said he loved the audition process and putting himelf out there and having to prove himself. He made it to the callback part of the audition procedure. When asked if it involved donning the vintage Spider-Man suit, Jonas said unfortunately, it did not. But it would have been fun.

As for Garfield, he went on to co-star in 2014’s “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” with Emma Stone (Gwen Stacy), with whom he ended up dating for a number of years.

The 39-year-old actor later returned to the role in Tobey Maguire and Tom Holland’s “Spider-Man: No Way Home” from the previous year. Jonas focused his energy on his music after missing out on the superhero success. The vocalist had “plenty of time” to devote to honing his acting abilities when the pandemic struck because “touring wasn’t really an option.”

Joe Jonas, who makes up one-third of the Jonas Brothers, a well-known boy band, has developed a sizable fan base on his own.

Joe has explored a lot with his sound and style over the past few years after founding his band, DNCE, and marrying Game of Thrones actress Sophie Turner in an unplanned Las Vegas ceremony.

He is currently a single father, however there are reports that he and Sophie want to have more children (and, by extension, family legacy.) Early in their careers, oe and his brothers recorded their debut single, “Please Be Mine,” in 2005. Kevin, the oldest brother, Joe, and Nick make up the band.

Frankie Jonas, a fourth sibling of the Jonas brothers, was too young to join the band. The brothers went on tour with Kelly Clarkson, The Click 5, Jesse McCartney, and the Backstreet Boys while they were recording their debut studio album. “Mandy,” the group’s debut single, was made available in December 2005.

The Jonas Brothers’ debut studio album was supposed to be released in February 2006, but delays were caused by changes with Sony, the parent company of Columbia Records.

The group started recording with other beloved Disney Channel stars, like Aly & AJ, in the interim. It’s About Time, their debut album, was eventually released in 2006 with little assistance from the label with marketing.
