West Fargo Public Library news and events for the week of Oct. 19
The West Fargo Public Library is collecting donations of new socks to benefit the Golden Drive Homeless Kids organization. Donations can be dropped in the box near the library service desk through the month of October.

Wednesday, Oct. 19
10:30 – 11:30 am, Ready to Read Storytime
On Wednesdays, kids ages 3 to 5 are invited to read, play and create at the West Fargo Library during Ready to Read Storytime. Each week, children and caregivers practice important early literacy skills through reading stories, doing movement activities, making art, singing, rhyming and playing together.

1 – 2 pm | Novel Afternoon Book Club
The Novel Afternoons Book Club meets the third Wednesday of every month at the West Fargo Public Library. Learn more about this group at westfargolibrary.org/bookclubs.

Thursday, Oct. 20
2:30 – 3:30 pm, Halloween Cupcake Wars for Teens

6 – 7 pm, Books & Brews Community Book Club at West Fargo Library
The Books & Brews Community Book Club usually meets on the fourth Thursday of every month. In October, the crew is meeting a week early at the West Fargo Public Library to allow participants to attend the One Book, One Community Louise Erdrich Author Talk on Thursday, October 27 at Concordia. Friday, Oct. 21
10:30 – 11:30 am, Baby Boost Storytime
Baby Boost Storytime at the West Fargo Public Library provides a safe and encouraging space for children ages 2 and under and their caregivers to interact and grow language and social skills through an introduction to books, rhymes, signs, and play. Activities from this storytime also help foster an emotional connection between the child and the caregiver which helps to create a positive association with learning and reading.

Saturday, Oct. 22

1:30 – 2:30 pm, Discovering Your Roots: Genealogy Online Gems vs. Junk
Discovering Your Roots is a free series of genealogy video courses shown monthly at the West Fargo Public Library. The public is invited to attend one or attend them all. No registration is required. Each session features video content from The Great Courses presented by John Phillip Colletta Ph. D., Professor at the Institute of Genealogy and Historical Research at Samford University. This month’s synopsis is: “It’s unthinkable to do genealogy today without the Internet. But not all online sources are reliable. First, take a look at the benefits (and drawbacks) of government, nonprofit, and commercial online sites. Then, learn how to make sense of US population censuses—the most important record for constructing lineage in America.”

Monday, Oct. 24
1:30 pm, Monday Matinee Free Movie Screening “Wild Indian”
The West Fargo Public Library shows a free movie every Monday afternoon at 1:30 pm This month’s theme is “Indigenous Stories” as part of this year’s One Book, One Community program. All movies are free and open to the public. “Wild Indian” is an unrated 2021 film about two men who learn to confront a traumatic secret they share involving the murder of a schoolmate.

6:30 – 7:30 pm, Let’s Talk Finances: Financial Blueprint & Planning for Retirement
John O’Day from Thrivent Financial will be at the library to teach you how to manage your savings, expenses, and credit, build a plan to handle setbacks, give your family direction about your end-of-life decisions, learn the power of compound interest, understand why you must keep your retirement account visible and prepare now to help manage your taxes in retirement. No registration is required.

Tuesday, Oct. 25

Come play an assortment of games (including mahjong) provided by the West Fargo Public Library. Mahjong & More Community Game Time is free and open to the public. Players of all skill levels are welcome.

6:30 – 7:30 pm, Gardening Club at West Fargo Library
The West Fargo Public Library’s Gardening Club meets monthly on the fourth Thursday. This month, attendees will discuss winterizing their gardens. This group is free to attend and open to the public. Gardeners of all skill levels are invited.
