Dedicated to disco grooves and living life with “clams on the half shell and roller skates – roller skates…”, the Velvet Foxes are back! Singers Lorraine Gervais, Cassidy Joy, Kate Haight and special guests Chris and Jon Kelly, are ready to get down with all the 70’s Disco moves and all night grooves for this very special Disco Inferno Halloween Ball at the Miners Foundry on October 29th.

Backed by the Super Fly Orchestra (Bob Villwock, Ray Sayre, Gary Regina, Jacob Aginsky, Tim Bulkley and Charlie Faber), the bass will be thumpin and everybody will be dancing to Stayin Alive, Boogie Oogie Oogie, Get Down Tonight, Best of My Love and way more. It’s time for a night of some hot harmonies, cool hand motions and old school disco funkiness—a fabulous ‘Got To Be Real’ kind of night!

The Velvet Foxes:

Identical twins Jon and Chris Kelly, have been playing music together their entire lives beginning in Chico, Ca. They developed a dueling piano show in 2008 that has kept them busy playing up and down the West Coast, along with their other talents of singing great harmonies, playing guitar, piano and trumpet. Jon, the elder of the duo by 10 minutes and subsequently full of wisdom and eloquence, has a BA in Musical Theater from CSU Chico and has spent several years performing in music theater from The Allenberry Playhouse in PA to an off Broadway cabaret in NYC and a year of acting studies at The Meisner Studio. He eventually returned to the west coast where he reunited with Chris to play the piano show “full time”. Chris, the younger of the duo by 10 minutes and subsequently full of adventure and endless optimism, hit the highway to play original music up and down the west coast. As part of an acoustic duo, he spent the next year logging miles and playing shows, with some time off to record several albums. Chris then relocated to the Santa Cruz area and started his own weekly solo piano/guitar show where he was joined, once again, by Jon and the dueling pianos show was re-established. The brothers sang with Lorraine at a show in Nevada City and they all knew their fates were sealed—Disco was in their future!

Cassidy Joy, multi-genre vocalist and guitarist, has been a versatile performer, songwriter and collaborator with other artists for many years here in Nevada County. She performs regularly as either a solo artist or with other local favorites including Karen Woerner, and has also been a featured singer throughout the years with bands including Cousin Cricket, The Rayos, and Objects In The Mirror. She and Lorraine performed with Alvetta Newby-Jones as the founding members of the Velvet Foxes in 2020 at the Miners Foundry for a Love is Love Concert as the last big community party right before Covid arrived.

Kate Hight, is a local powerhouse in both the performing worlds of acting and singing and has spent many years entertaining audiences in productions from Sierra Stages, Off Broad Street Theater and Upstart Theater, to name a few. She performs regularly with the Cousin Cricket band, and has sung with Lorraine Gervais in countless shows and concerts over the years—from R&B to Rock to Country to Disco.

Lorraine “Lolo” Gervais is known for her warm and soulful vocals, empowering female presence and fun relationship with her audiences. In addition to playing locally at different venues with her R&B and Jazz groups, she has recently produced a series of shows at the Center for the Arts called “Lolo’s Lounge” where she features locally known performers of many different genres and styles. The series has been renewed for 2023. In her career she’s worn many hats in the music business— bandleader, mentor, producer, performer, but her favorite moments come from creating music onstage with her fellow musicians and making people happy, and playing Disco with the Velvet Foxes make everybody happy!
