All things Star Wars celebrated in October at Naperville’s three library branches – Chicago Tribune

This October, the greatest bounty in the galaxy will be books as we enjoy Star Wars Reads, a month-long celebration of all Star Wars literature. With themed storytimes, galactic crafts and more, there are programs, activities and books for everyone from the youngest Padawan to the wisest Jedi master.

This year, our star event will take you out of this world: the Droid Builders’ Maker Open House! Join us at 95th Street Library on Oct. 1 as members of the Astromech Building Club show off their droids in person! Meet Star Wars fans who have taken the time to recreate some of the most iconic characters from the Star Wars universe. Thanks to the 501st Rebel Legion and Mandalorian Merc costuming club, there will also be opportunities to see some of your favorite characters, including storm troopers, rebel pilots, R2-D2 and BB-8!

Join us for even more galactic fun all month long:

Star Wars Bean Bags with the Embroidery Machine (1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, 95th Street Library)

Discover the path to making bean bags through a demonstration of the Library’s embroidery machine. Learn how to embroider a rebel or imperial insignia, then sew and stuff bean bags.

Galactic Crafts (1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1 and 8, 95th Street Library)

Crafters can create a Chewbacca pencil holder and a Star Wars zipper case. Crafts are intended for ages 11 and older and are available while supplies last.

What Can I See in the Sky from My Backyard? (7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 3, 95th Street Library)

Learn about the stars and constellations you can see from your own back yard with Rick Gering from the Naperville Astronomical Association. Learn tips for star gazing in the suburbs and about upcoming exciting sky events. After the presentation, we will move outside for telescope time, weather permitting!

Hidden Star Wars (7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 6, online)

Experience Star Wars like never before with this thrilling insider’s peek at one of the most treasured film series in the galaxy! Hear inside jokes, secret references and dozens more exciting moments included by the filmmaker for die hard Star Wars fans in this fantastic collection of film clips.

Sound Like Darth Vader (noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, 95th Street Library)

Drop by the library’s Sound Recording Studio to learn how to record your voice and alter it to sound like imperial leader Darth Vader!

Trash Compactor Escape Room (noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, 95th Street Library)

While on the Death Star, you have fallen into one of the trash compactors! You and your team must work together to solve the clues to escape before time runs out. This escape room is intended for ages 10 and older.

Star Wars Reads Craft Kits (all months, all locations)

Stop by the library to pick up a Star Wars Reads Craft Kit for children, teens or adults. Craft kits will include coffee sleeves, Ewoks, a Death Star key chain, a Baby Yoda ornament and more. Kits are available on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last.

The Readers’ Resistance (all months, all locations)

Help us determine the most Force-filled Star Wars book in the galaxy by voting for your favorite in our book bracket. Star Wars titles will go head-to-head, with the winners of each week moving on in the tournament. Which book will emerge triumphant? The following titles will kick off the book bracket:
