GRAND HAVEN, Mich. – Coming off of a runner-up finish against a premier field in the season-opening OFCC / Fighting Angieli Invitational, the Illinois men’s golf team – No. 8 nationally in the latest Golfweek collegiate team rankings – returns to action Monday-Wednesday (Sept. 26-28) at the inaugural Folds of Honor Collegiate.
This new event benefits Folds of Honor, a nonprofit organization that provides educational scholarships to the spouses and children of military members who have fallen or been disabled while serving in the United States Armed Forces, and the GCAA Presidential Scholarship Fund.
The Folds of Honor Collegiate will be hosted at American Dunes Golf Club in Grand Haven, Mich. The course is a par 72 that measures 7,213 yards.
American Dunes is a Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course that is a tribute to the military and commemorates the birthplace of Folds of Honor. The facility, which is located a few hundred yards from the east shore of Lake Michigan, is a dunes-like course, utilizing the dramatic local topography and sand base that covers the property, and features generous, rolling fairways.
The 54-hole tournament will be played over three days with 18 holes slated for each day of competition. Tee times for Rounds 1 and 2, on Monday and Tuesday, respectively, begin at 8:30 am CT. Sunday’s final round tee times are set for 7:30 am CT.
The schedule for the week will also include opening ceremonies at 12-1 pm CT on Sunday, and closing ceremonies at approximately 2 pm CT on Wednesday.
The tournament field features 18 programs highlighted by four currently ranked inside the top 50 by Golfweek: Air Force, (32) Arizona, Army, Central Michigan, Clemson, Eastern Michigan, (14) Florida State, Grand Valley State, (8) Illinois , Kansas, Liberty, Michigan State, Navy, NC State, (41) Oregon State, Texas Southern, UCLA, and Virginia Union.
Annually, the field at the Folds of Honor Collegiate will feature two HBCU programs. This reflects the 41 percent of Folds of Honor recipients that are minorities and the GCAA and Black Golf Coaches Association of America partnership to help grow opportunities for HBCU and black college golf.
