COSHOCTON – Most districts are viewing this school year as the first relatively normal one since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020.

This includes bringing back events not held due to large-group gatherings, like pep rallies. Coshocton Elementary School had a REAL Redskin rally on Tuesday, with REAL standing for respectful, elevate others, accountable and leader. Third to sixth grade Principal John Casey said it was the first mass gathering of students they have had in two years.

The rally was held by the Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) teams, another concept that was put on the backburner during the pandemic.

PBIS is an evidence-based, tiered framework for supporting students behavioral, academic, social, emotional and mental health. Studies show the program helps to improve social emotional competence, academic success and school climate while improving teacher health and well-being.
