Leon County Library series will help us celebrate life, understand death

Several months ago, my friend, Betty Morales, contacted me about helping to brainstorm with Leon County librarians Kristina Holt and Mary Douglas, a six-week community “Death and Dying” series for the public.

As a new employee at the Tallahassee Senior Center, Morales is having a crash course in just how many excellent offerings the Senior Center offers, often in collaboration with other agencies in our community.

Wanting to be practical, educational, inspirational, and more, these many thoughtful classes are designed and offered with the needs of the community in mind. And there is no topic more universally applicable, impacting each of us, than preparing well for dying, the most common human event.

Having been in hospice work for 21 years, Morales had a good idea of topics, and connections with many experienced compassionate people to address the topics.
