Gloria Kidd Golden
Hyde Park – Gloria Kidd Golden, 96, a longtime resident of Hyde Park, passed away peacefully at home on April 5, 2022, after a long and active life.
She was born in Trenton, NJ on December 30, 1925, the daughter of the Reverend Gordon Kidd and Claire Schenck Kidd.
Gloria is survived by her husband, John W. ‘Brud’ Golden Jr. and daughter, Elizabeth Hilton, and husband, Gary. She was predeceased by her son, Jonathan; grandson, Alex; sister, Claire Rose; and brother, Gordon Kidd Jr.
She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Gwendolyn Cookingham, and many nieces and nephews.
A Christmas Eve miracle at St. James’ Chapel in 1946 introduced Gloria to John and they were married on August 26, 1950. They recently celebrated seventy-two wonderful years together.
Gloria attended schools in Richfield Springs and Herkimer prior to graduating from St. Lawrence University in 1946. She became a Psychiatric Social Worker in New York City. After moving to Hyde Park, Gloria became an Archives Assistant at the FDR Library.
Gloria was an accomplished pianist and church organist, having played at St. Lawrence University and churches in the Mohawk and Hudson Valleys, including St. James’ Episcopal Church in Hyde Park. She loved hosting her many musical gatherings with her friends and fellow musicians at her home by the river.
She was a communicant of St. James’ Episcopal Church, serving on many parish committees including the Altar Guild and as Organist and Choir Director. She was responsible for the renovation of the St. James’ Chapel in honor of her father. Gloria was a Cub Scout Leader, FISH and Meals on Wheels volunteer, Hyde Park Library Board Member, and Dutchess County Heart Fund Chairperson. She was honored by the Dutchess County Historical Society and New Horizons, was a former Grand Marshall of the Hyde Park 4th of July Parade and recipient of the St. James’ Medal. Gloria was active in many charitable endeavors and was honored to have the Hyde Park Police and Court Building named in her honor, and to have been awarded the special Eleanor Roosevelt Medal at Val-Kill.
The Golden family extends thanks to our special caregivers and Hospice friends.
There will be no calling hours. Gloria’s funeral service will be celebrated by the Rev. Canon K. Jeanne Person and the Rev. Chuck Kramer at 10 AM, Monday, April 11th, at her beloved St. James’ Episcopal Church, 4526 Albany Post Rd., Hyde Park.

Interment will be in the family plot in the St. James’ Churchyard followed by a reception at the Parish Hall.
